The UK sheep milk industry is under threat – and we’re on a mission to help save it. In our producer collective alone, 20 out of 22 processors of sheep milk have been lost since March this year, leaving Shepherd's Purse as only one of two left.
Without the demand, the sheep dairies we work with will disappear. The solution? It’s actually pretty simple (and delicious).
We need to get more people eating more cheese.
A CAUSE WE CARE ABOUT
We’ve used sheep milk to create our award-winning cheeses since 1989 when Mum first set out with a mission to create quality dairy alternatives for cow's milk allergy sufferers. In our greatest time of need, after losing our original flock in 2001 to foot and mouth, Simon Stott and the Sheep Milk UK collective stepped in to help our independent, family run business, and now it's our turn to repay the favour.
SHEEP MILK?! SHEEP MILK!
The good news? Cheese made from sheep milk is actually more likely to help than hinder our wellbeing (when enjoyed in moderation, of course) especially those suffering from cow's milk allergy or intolerance. It’s why we started Shepherd's Purse in the first place!
Here’s just some of its known baaa-nefits...
It’s loaded with vitamins and minerals In fact, it has more of the major nutrients we need than even cow and goat milk.
It’s the good kind of fat The kind that helps our bodies absorb vitamins and it's thought to lower cholesterol, inhibit cancer growth and contain healthy bacteria that’s good for our guts too!
It’s a rich source of calcium Known to have positive effects on disorders like hypertension, osteoporosis, obesity and dental caries.
It’s balanced The right ratio of fat, protein and carbohydrates mean that it’s much easier to digest and helps your body absorb all the goodness.
WE NEED EWE
The easiest way you can help the sheep dairy farmers? Generate demand! The more cheese like Fettle we make, the more sheep milk we need – it really is as simple as that.
Imagine if every problem could be solved by enjoying delicious artisan cheese...
